Luke A. Schamel
Associate
Luke tries complex, high-stakes cases. He represents plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal court, with an emphasis on antitrust matters.
Luke approaches cases pragmatically and strategically, focusing on what matters at trial and on appeal and avoiding what doesn’t. So, too, with his writing. Using plain language, Luke distills complex topics so that they are simple and understandable. Whether examining a witness, arguing a motion, or writing a brief, he embraces brevity and simplicity to tell a compelling story for his clients.
Before becoming a lawyer, Luke served as an officer in the U.S. Navy and was a management consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton in Washington, D.C. These experiences shaped his disciplined and strategic approach to litigation, and he has developed a reputation for bringing calm and restraint to contentious disputes.
Luke’s experience includes serving on the team that defeated an antitrust class action lawsuit against private equity firm Welsh Carson—a significant win in closely watched litigation over private equity’s role in an allegedly anticompetitive roll-up strategy. He was also part of the trial team that secured a $100 million settlement for the Venoco Liquidating Trust in a pipeline rupture dispute after an eight-week trial in Santa Barbara, California.
Beyond his legal practice, Luke is passionate about animal-welfare and veterans’ causes and has two rescue dogs. He also enjoys endurance sports and often can be spotted running around Houston training for his next marathon.
