Federal Trial On Behalf Of 12,000 Texas Foster Children Concludes After Two Weeks of Testimony

Yetter Coleman, along with co-counsel, Children’s Rights, a New York-based national watchdog organization advocating on behalf of abused and neglected children, and Haynes and Boone, concluded presentation of its case against the State of Texas in connection with a class action lawsuit filed on behalf of 12,000 children in long term foster care that alleges systemic failures on the part of the State of Texas, including overloaded caseworkers, lax oversight, and an inadequate array of suitable foster homes, violates the children’s constitutional right to substantive due process by allowing them to languish in a defective system with little hope of finding a permanent home.

Testimony was heard by Senior U.S. District Judge Janis Graham Jack, in the Southern District of Texas, Corpus Christi Division.

The case is M.D. v. Perry.  Details reported on case testimony can be found here.
