Y. Ping Sun and David W. Leebron Honored with Holocaust Museum of Houston’s ‘Guardian of the Human Spirit’ Award

The annual Guardian of the Human Spirit Luncheon raises essential funds supporting Holocaust and Human Rights education for students, teachers, members, and the public. This year, Y. Ping Sun and her husband David W. Leebron will be honored for their active support of the Museum for over a decade.

Ping and David came to Houston in 2004 when David was named the seventh president of Rice University. Ping also chairs the Asia Society Texas Board of Directors and is a member of the Asia Society’s Global Board of Trustees. She serves on the Greater Houston Covid-19 Recovery Fund Task force.   Ping co-chaired the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund Grants Committee. Former Houston Mayor Annise Parker officially designated April 23, 2015, as “Y. Ping Sun Day” in Houston.

The luncheon will feature special guest speaker is Juju Chang, Emmy Award-winning co-anchor of ABC News Nightline and a regular contributor to Good Morning America and 20/20. One of the most prominent Asian Americans in broadcast news, Chang made U.S. broadcast history co-anchoring the 2021 ABC News Live special, Stop the Hate: The Rise in Violence Against Asian Americans.

Ping and David will be honored at the luncheon on November 10, 2022, at the Hilton Americas- Houston.
